If you are running a keyword targeted ad on Google Adwords or are looking for keywords to use in your site optimization wouldn´t it be great if you could check the commercial value for each of your keywords?
Well the good news is “You can!”. But first let´s take a look at what exactly we mean by commercial value.
Commercial value
A keywords commercial value in this case is used to indicate the probability the keyword will generate visits from users that will generate a conversion on your site. (For those who are unsure what a conversion is please read this post) In other words, would visitors interested in buying your product use this keyword?
Converting keywords
Some keywords by itself indicate that the person searching for it is looking to buy a product. for example if the term “buy” or “purchase” is used, well you have a clear indication he is looking to buy. But in some cases it cannot be derived directly from the used search term. So how could you possibly know this keyword’s commercial value?
Well you could use your historical data and see how often a conversion took place when this keyword was used. While this can ofcourse be done if you have the data but wouldn´t it be great if there was an online tool that used a large amount of historical search information to determine a keywords commercial value? Well there is such a tool and the great thing about it is it is absolutely free.
You can find it here: Detecting online commercial intention
The tool determines the users commercial intent and displays it on a scale from 0 to 1. A value of 0.5 or higher means there is commercial intent.
How to use these keywords
If you don´t have any historical data regarding conversionrates for your keywords you could use this tool in the process of determining your maximum bidding price for your PPC campaign or you could use it to determine if the keywords you are using are the correct ones.
